Lake Forest, IL (SportsNetwork.com) – Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs
will miss the remainder of the season due to a groin injury that could end his
long tenure with the franchise.
Briggs, a free agent at season’s end, was placed on injured reserve one day
after Chicago’s 34-17 Thanksgiving loss at Detroit. The 34-year-old was
inactive for the game after hurting his groin in last Sunday’s matchup against
Tampa Bay.
A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Briggs has spent his entire 12-year career in
Chicago after being taken by the Bears in the third round of the 2003 draft.
He ranks fifth in club history in games started (170) and has led the team in
tackles five times.
Briggs also sat out three games with a rib injury earlier this season, which
he ends with a career-low 35 tackles along with one interception and one
forced fumble in eight outings.
