Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver
Sammy Watkins left Wednesday’s practice with a groin injury and didn’t return,
while running back Fred Jackson took the field for the first time in over two
weeks.
Watkins, the No. 4 overall draft pick, leads the team in receptions, receiving
yards and touchdown catches.
Bills coach Doug Marrone said he doesn’t know what Watkins’ status is going
forward.
The Bills play Kansas City at home on Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t know where he’s going to be tomorrow,” Marrone said. “He could play
or he could be out two-to-three weeks. Who knows? … I have no information
except he didn’t finish practice.”
ESPN reported that Watkins, who has 38 receptions for 590 yards and five
touchdowns, would undergo a precautionary MRI, but the team doesn’t believe
his injury is serious.
Jackson returned to practice in a limited role for the first time since he
suffered a groin injury on Oct. 19 against Minnesota.
The Bills had a bye last week, so the 33-year-old veteran has only missed one
game despite previously saying he could be out up to a month.
“It went OK,” Jackson said, according to the team’s official website. “It was
good action, the first time I’ve done anything on (my knee) like that being
out at practice, so it went well. We’ll see how it goes. The doctors are still
being doctors and being cautious. So I’ve got to see how things progress
throughout the week.”
Cornerback Ron Brooks (groin), wide receivers Marcus Easley (knee) and
Marquise Goodwin (hamstring) and linebacker Ty Powell (ankle) were also
limited in practice Wednesday. Wide receiver Robert Woods (back) was a full
participant.
