Boykin leads No. 6 TCU past Texas

Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Trevone Boykin threw two touchdown passes
and ran for another and No. 6 TCU made a statement with a 48-10 road win over
Texas on Thursday.

Boykin completed 20-of-34 for 233 yards and carried the ball 12 times for 50
in TCU’s sixth straight win. Aaron Green ran for 73 yards and a touchdown and
Josh Doctson made seven receptions for 115 and a score.

TCU (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) will need a win next week in its regular-season finale
against Iowa State and help in order to sneak into the Top 4 of college
football’s inaugural playoff.

Tyrone Swoopes passed for 200 yards and a touchdown but was picked off a
career-worst four times, as Texas (6-6, 5-4) saw its three-game win streak
come to an end.

Texas went three-and-out on the game’s first possession and Cameron Echols-
Luper returned Michael Davidson’s punt 53 yards to the Texas 27. TCU only
gained two yards on three plays and had to settle for Jaden Oberkrom’s 42-yard
field goal.

Sam Carter intercepted Swoopes later in the first, leading to a 29-yarder from
Oberkrom.

The Longhorns finally sustained a drive late in the first, picking up three
first downs to get to the TCU 39. But Jonathan Gray was tackled for a loss of
10 yards on first down and Swoopes fumbled on second down. Davion Pierson got
to Swoopes and jarred the ball loose, and Terrell Lathan scooped it up and ran
40 yards untouched to the end zone.

Nick Rose hit from 47 yards at 7:56 of the second to put Texas on the board,
but TCU’s offense came alive and found the end zone late in the half to send
the Horned Frogs into halftime with a 20-3 lead.

Doctson’s 38-yard reception highlighted the scoring drive, and David Porter
hauled in a TD grab from four yards out on 3rd-and-goal.

Neither team scored in the third, but Doctson won a jump ball in the left side
of the end zone on the first play of the fourth. His 22-yard touchdown made
it 27-3.

Texas responded less than a minute later, when Armant Foreman caught a short
pass from Swoopes and ran 73 yards down the left sideline for the lone
Longhorns touchdown.

TCU scored 21 unanswered points from there, with Boykin and Green both running
for touchdowns and Josh Carraway intercepting Swoopes and taking it back.

Game Notes

Swoopes had only been intercepted three times over his last six games …
Texas went 5-for-18 on third down … The Longhorns were only penalized three
times for 17 yards.
