Somerset, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) – Saint Francis running back Khairi Dickson
and Bryant defensive end Jeff Covitz were named the Northeast Conference’s
offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively, on Wednesday.
Dickson is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award which honors the outstanding
player in the FCS. Covitz is a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award which
honors the nation’s outstanding defensive player.
Sacred Heart’s Mark Nofri was named the NEC’s coach of the year for a second
straight season. His squad earned a share of the conference title with Wagner
as well as the NEC’s automatic bid to the FCS playoffs for a second conseuctive
season.
The rookies of the year were Saint Francis running back Marcus Bagley (offense)
and Duquesne linebacker Nathan Stone (defense).
