Madison, WI (SportsNetwork.com) – Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon set the
FBS single-game record with 408 yards rushing against Nebraska on Saturday.
Gordon ripped off seven runs of at least 26 yards, including six of 39 yards
or more to break LaDainian Tomlinson’s old FBS record of 406 yards for TCU
against UTEP on Nov. 20, 1999.
Tomlinson, who went on to star in the NFL, congratulated Gordon in a tweet
soon after the junior broke his record with a 26-yard touchdown run in the
snow on the final play of the third quarter.
Gordon broke the Wisconsin record of 339 yards set by all-time NCAA rushing
leader Ron Dayne against Hawaii on Nov. 30, 1996.
He scored four touchdowns, giving him an FBS-high 25 this season, and had also
had runs of 68, 62, 44, 43, 42 and 39 yards for the No. 22 Badgers, who were
blowing out the 11th-ranked Cornhuskers late in the fourth quarter.
