Harrisonburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) – James Madison football coach Everett
Withers announced the indefinite suspensions of three players Monday for a
violation of team rules.
The three were starters Jimmy Moreland, a cornerback coming off a big freshman
season, and Rhakeem Stallings, a linebacker entering his junior campaign, and
K.J. Ford, a nose guard who was redshirted as a freshman last season.
In a statement, Withers said, “It is our responsibility as JMU football coaches
and mentors to provide an environment that promotes learning and growth and
provides experiences that help each young man on our team become a better
person in our society. We expect the members of our football family to follow
and obey the core values of our program.
“We have found that these young men have broken parts of our core values.
Therefore, we have suspended each of these young men from our team
indefinitely. Their status as James Madison football team members will be
evaluated at a later date.”
Moreland was a finalist for the 2014 Jerry Rice Award which honored the FCS
freshman of the year. He had three interceptions and five blocked kicks and
scored a pair of touchdowns as James Madison went 9-4 and qualified for the FCS
playoffs.
Stallings ranked third on the team with 80 tackles.
