Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) – Peyton Manning’s latest feat might be
his most impressive.
The Broncos quarterback tossed his 509th touchdown pass on Sunday to break
Brett Favre’s NFL record.
Manning tossed for scores on three of his first four drives against the San
Francisco 49ers to vault past Favre’s previous mark. The five-time NFL MVP
fired an 8-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas on a 3rd-and-goal in the
front right part of the end zone in the second quarter to set the mark.
Following the score, the Broncos receivers along with Julius Thomas played a
game of keepaway with Manning, not letting him have the ball before finally
giving it to the future Hall of Famer.
The Broncos played a brief tribute on the big screen, which included messages
from Favre, John Elway and several of Manning’s teammates.
Favre congratulated Manning on Twitter shortly thereafter.
“Well deserved Peyton, Congratulations on breaking my record. #Onto600,” he
said.
Manning reached the record in his 246th game — 56 games fewer than Favre.
Manning and Favre are the only quarterbacks in NFL history to throw over 500
TD passes.
