Mathews out, Allen questionable for Chargers

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – As expected, the San Diego Chargers have
ruled running back Ryan Mathews out for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo
Bills.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen, meanwhile, has been listed as questionable on the
team’s final injury report after being limited in practice for a second
straight day by a groin issue.

Mathews was carted off the field with an injury to his right knee during the
fourth quarter of San Diego’s 30-21 win over the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.
NFL.com reported Monday that the two-time 1,000-yard rusher suffered a
sprained medial collateral ligament and could be sidelined for 4-to-5 weeks.

Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead are expected to split backfield duties for
this weekend’s clash with the 2-0 Bills.

Allen ranks second among Charger players in catches (10) and receiving yards
(92) through the season’s first two weeks.

Tight end Antonio Gates (hamstring), coming off a three-touchdown game against
the Seahawks, is probable to face the Bills after putting in a full practice
on Friday.

San Diego will definitely be without starting outside linebacker Melvin
Ingram, who did not practice at all this week due to a hamstring injury.
