With the NFL season heating up, so do my NFL picks, which will be here for you each and every week to help you win your pick-em-pool, embarrass your friends, and just become a more whole football fan and human being. It’s all about making money and having a great time while doing so. I will be here for you each and every week to help you do just that as well as embarrass your friends and just become a more whole football fan and human being. I will take a look at five games each week with the best value and rate them on a sliding lock of the week 1-10 scale. Off a rousing 4-1 week four and back-toback 4-1 campaigns, lets aim for perfection this week. And….Away….We….Go!
DTM Song Of The Week: Aretha Franklin “Rolling In The Deep” Speaking of “covering”, my specialty here at DTM’s Locks of the Week, this rendition of the legendary Adele song by the Queen of Soul, is the rare cover that gives the original a run for its money. This song haunts me more and more every time I listen to it. A great prelude to “covering” each and every game this weekend.
St Louis Rams at Philadelphia Eagles 1 p.m. Sunday TV Fox (Eagles -7)
The Austin Davis era begins for the Rams and no one could care less. This is a baddddddd St Louis team with very few offensive weapons and a defense that was supposed to be solid yet looks weaker and weaker by the game. The Igles come off a bad second half against the desperate Niners , but that won’t happen to weeks in a row for Chip Kelly’s squad. Look for a Philly Cheesesteak rout in this one and for Rams coach Jeff Fischer’s mustache to get knocked doff his face by the final gun.
5.5 on DTM Lock of the Week Meter – Eagles -7
Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49’ers 4:25 p.m. EST Sunday TV CBS 62 (Niners -6)
K.C showed the Nations and readers of my noble blog that they are the real deal. I told you last week they would embarrass the Pats and win that game outright with one of the most balanced teams in the NFL. They will not blowout the Niners by the Bay this weekend, but they will continue their ascent to one of the leagues best teams. S.F got the win they simply had to get last week against the Liberty Bells and seem like they could be primed for a run of gasp…..good play, cause that had been non existent so far this season. Look for this to be one of the more fun games to watch so far this year with ups and downs by both teams. In the end The Chiefs will have just enough to either lose by a whissssker or win this game outright.
6.5 on DTM Lock of the Week Meter – Chiefs +6
Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts 1p.m. EST Sunday TV CBS 62 (Colts -3)
The Colts were my preseason pick to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl and each passing week they are looking more and more like the right selection. Andrew “Pot” Luck Dinner has been on fire and the defense is starting to really come into form. Save the bad first half in Denver on the opening Sunday Night, this team has looked like one of the best in the league. even with the Ravens coming off a solid win at home against Carolina, they simply do not have enough firepower on either side of the ball to match the Ponies.
7.1 on DTM Lock of the Week Meter – Colts -3.5 (buy down to 3)
Buffalo Bills at Detroit Lions 1 p.m. EST Sunday TV CBS 62 (Lions -7)
No one circles the wagons like….The Detroit Lions? Well the team is 3-1 and has done what they have supposed to have done so far this season. All the good tidings could be thwarted with a bad performance against an inferior Buffalo team. Yes I know the Schwartz is coming back to town (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9OaCuUlCAU), but even his marketing ploys won’t be able to help the rudderless Bills.
Bottom line, that is not going to happen. Yes new Bills starter Kyle” Jaime Samuelson” Orton is 40-1 against the, but that was in “another time” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-AmHZ17gWM.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-AmHZ17gWM. The Lions have yet to truly breakout this season and it wiull happen on Sunday at Ford Field across the street from the Tigers playing their ALDS game 3. Lord hopes that game goes as well as this one goes for the home-standing team.
DETROIT 41 BILLS 17
7.4 on DTM Lock of the Week Meter – Lions -7 (buy it down to 6.5 for posterity’s sake)
Cincinnati Bengals at New England Patriots 8:30 PM EST Sunday TV NBC (Bengals -1)
I told you last week the Pats would get sand-blasted on MNF as they simply don’t have a trustworthy offense at home and even worse on the road. Well for all that talk about Terrific Tom and company being in for a stinker, throw that out the window this week. If you believe in trends, take note: the Patriots are 34-5 straight up and 29-10 against the spread following a loss since 2003. While I still think the Patriots are tremendously overrated and will struggle through much of this season, which is clearly on the downswing of Tom Brady’s career, they still have enough talent to make some moves in games.
Having Darth Hoodie on the sidelines hurts you when it comes to getting caught cheating, but not when it comes to scheming coming off a loss. Cinci is going to be one of the AFC’s elite teams all season long, especially with that D, but on this night the Pats will for at least one game this year, look like the New England of old.
8 on DTM Lock of the Week Meter – Pats +1
ODDS TIDBIT—– Lions have moved to 10-1 to win the NFC and 22-1 to win Super Bowl XLIX. The fourth choice in the NFC and the ninth overall.
Last week 4-1
DTM’S 2014 Record ATS:14-6
DTM’s 2013 Record ATS:43-26
