Raiders sign QB Ponder

Alameda, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Oakland Raiders have inked free-agent
quarterback Christian Ponder.

The move to get Ponder is apparently so he could back up Derek Carr, who was
the starter for all 16 games during his rookie season.

A first-round draft choice by Minnesota in 2011, Ponder had spent the previous
four seasons with the Vikings. He will be reunited with Raiders offensive
coordinator Bill Musgrave, who was with the Vikings from 2011-13.

In 38 career games, 36 starts, Ponder has thrown for 6,658 yards with 38
touchdowns and 36 interceptions. He played in just two games last season.

The Raiders also inked cornerback James Dockery. He comes to Oakland after
stints with Cleveland (2011) and Carolina (2012-14). He played in seven games
with the Panthers last season.
