Report: UAB to shut down football program

Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) – The University of Alabama-Birmingham is
reportedly going to discontinue its football program.

Citing two sources close to the situation, AL.com is reporting that UAB
president Ray Watts is expected to inform his administrative staff and other
university officials of the decision Tuesday.

UAB went 6-6 this past season and is bowl eligible for the first time since
2004.

The last Division I program to discontinue football was Pacific in 1995.
