Jackson, MS (SportsNetwork.com) – The Southwestern Athletic Conference football
game between Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State on Saturday won’t have
a big impact on the East Division title race.
But the Homecoming game at Jackson State has a pair of intriguing story lines
to draw plenty of attention.
First-year Mississippi Valley State coach Rick Comegy is making his return to
Jackson State to take on the program that he guided the last eight seasons. He
posted a 55-35 record in eight seasons from 2006-13, won the SWAC title with
the Tigers in 2007, and led them back to the conference championship game in
2008, 2012 and last year.
Just as interesting is the head-to-head matchup of brothers at quarterback.
Patrick Ivy is the senior starter at Mississippi Valley State, while his
sophomore brother LaMontiez Ivy leads the Jackson State offense.
Mississippi Valley State is 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the SWAC, having lost five
straight games. Jackson State, under new coach Harold Jackson, is coming off a
home loss to Prairie View A&M, and has 3-3 and 1-2 records.
