Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) – Washington cornerback Marcus Peters,
considered a potential first-round pick for the 2015 NFL Draft, has been
dismissed from the Huskies’ football program following a reported series of
clashes with the coaching staff.
According to the Seattle Times, Peters did not attend practice on Tuesday and
was involved in a heated argument with an assistant coach on Wednesday. The
talented junior also had a run-in with a Huskies’ coach during the team’s win
at Colorado on Saturday.
Washington head coach Chris Petersen issued a statement on Thursday confirming
Peters’ removal from the team.
“These are not decisions that are taken lightly,” Petersen said. “We have high
standards for players in our program and they are held accountable when those
standards are not met. I wish Marcus the best in the completion of his
education and in achieving his football goals.”
The university said it will continue to honor Peters’ scholarship through the
remainder of his education.
Peters also was suspended one game in September for a sideline tirade during
Washington’s home opener against Eastern Washington.
A second-team All-Pac-12 selection as a sophomore, Peters leads the Huskies
with three interceptions and 10 passes defensed while totaling 30 tackles in
eight games.
The Oakland native is rated the No. 1 cornerback prospect for next year’s
draft by CBSSports.com.
