Woods joins Richmond football staff

Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) – University of Richmond football coach Danny
Rocco announced the hiring of Sparky Woods as associate head coach, recruiting
coordinator and running backs coach on Friday.

Woods was VMI’s head coach the last seven seasons, compiling a 17-62 record.

He also was the head coach at Appalachian State from 1984-88 and South Carolina
from 1989-1993, and has over 20 additional years as an assistant coach on both
the collegiate and professional levels.

“Coach Woods’ reputation and resume is very impressive and we are very excited
to add him to our staff and welcome him to the Spider family,” Rocco said in a
statement.

Charlie Fisher also was promoted to offensive coordinator, and he will coach
the quarterbacks. Bill Polin has moved to the tight ends coach.
